Chromebook Write For Us

A Chromebook (sometimes stylized as a small Chromebook) is a laptop or tablet running the Linux-based ChromeOS operating system. Originally, Chromebooks remained designed to rely heavily on web apps to complete tasks using  Google Chrome. Since 2017 and 2018, Chromebooks have remained enhanced to run full-fledged Android and Linux apps. All supported apps can remain installed and run alongside Flank.

Chromebooks can operate offline; Apps like Gmail, Google Calendar, Google Keep, and Google Drive sync when you reconnect to the internet. Google Play video content is available offline with the Google Play Movies & Apps app TV extension with  Chrome browser.

Early hardware partners for Chromebook development included Acer, Adobe, Asus, Freescale, Hewlett-Packard (later HP Inc.), Lenovo, Qualcomm, Texas Instruments, Toshiba, Intel, Samsung, and Dell.

Chromebooks remain equipped with ChromeOS, an operating system that uses the Linux kernel, and the Google Chrome web browser with an integrated media player. If you enable developer mode, you can install Linux distributions and other operating systems on Chromebooks. Chromebooks also have a screw or switch on the motherboard that you can use to turn write protection on or off. Crouton is a script that allows you to install a Linux distro into ChromeOS and run both operating systems simultaneously.

In a press conference on December 7, 2010,  Google announced the ChromeOS pilot program, a pilot experience, and the first Chromebook, the  Chrome Notebook Cr-48, a prototype to test the operating system and change the hardware for that. The device had a minimalist design and was all black with no markings, although it remained made by Inventec and had a rubberized coating.

The device remains named after chromium-48, an unstable isotope of the metallic element chromium (chemical symbol Cr), and the participants were called Cr-48 test pilots. Between December 2010 and March 2011, Google gave away around 60,000 Chrome Cr-48 notebooks to attendees for free, asking for feedback such as suggestions and bug reports. The Cr-48 was for testing purposes only and not for retail sales.
