Steve and Valene, the owners of the New Baltimore Trade Center. They strive to make sure you have a safe and comfortable environment to shop local, every weekend, with no admission fees. Also there are different shows and events, almost every weekend. The New Baltimore Trade Center is a great place to grow your business as well. They opened the facility to some fanfare three years ago in a 35,000-square-foot former grocery store building on 23 Mile Road near Jefferson Avenue. It features some 150 vendors and frequent special shows. The New Baltimore Trade Center  was opened in the year 2019 following the closure of Gibraltar Trade Center.

Gibraltar Trade Center

The Gibraltar Trade Center was a public market in the Metro Detroit region of the U.S. state of Michigan. As of its closure, it had one remaining location in Mount Clemens, Michigan which was previously home to the Mount Clemens Race Track. From 1980 to 2014, there was a second location in Taylor, Michigan.

The company blamed its closure on the rise of online sales. According to CEO Bob Koester, the “Gibraltar Gun and Knife Shows” and the “Gibraltar Rug and Furniture” store in Warren, Michigan will remain open and operational.

New Baltimore Trade Center Rebound From Pandemic

Business was good until March 2020 when the pandemic abruptly slowed things down and forced a three-month closure, according to Steven, who owns and operates the facility with his wife, Valene. “We were doing pretty good in 2019 but when COVID hit and we closed, we lost a lot of vendors and all of our foot traffic,” he said.

He and his wife, who live in Clay Township, used their personal savings during the slow down to stay afloat. He sought financial assistance by applying for pandemic-related Small Business grants or loans but was rejected, he said. The business was ineligible for payroll protection funds because the couple do most of the work with few employees. He said customer traffic started to rebound about halfway through last year and is getting better but still not to where it was before.

The owners have gotten creative with a fishfly as its logo — a nod to a summer theme in the lakefront town — as well as an interactive web site and an active Facebook page. The center each month stages a live auction at which anyone can sell or buy items. The auctions are held on Thursdays and special shows and events arranged  often.

Conclusion

New Baltimore Trade Center has something for everybody. They offer different events on the weekends. The vendors offer a huge variety from clothes to pop culture items, antiques and collectibles, pet supplies, jerky, fudge, and so much more.
